Why Kids Are Some of My Most Important Patients

When you’re a family dentist some of your most important and memorable patients are kids.  I know my younger patients leave a lasting and positive impression on me, regardless of how many, or preferably, how little cavities we have to deal with.  What I’m more concerned with is the impression I leave on them.  Think about it.  If you’re made uneasy by dental visits, it’s probably an apprehension that started when you were younger.  Most people don’t go through their child and teen years visiting the dentist without issue and suddenly develop a fear as an adult.  It’s almost always the result of an unpleasant experience from childhood or a fear that was never dispelled.  My goal as a dentist is to help my patients keep their teeth healthy.  That doesn’t start with lectures about flossing or explanations on gum disease (although they are an essential part of what I do).  To keep my patents’ teeth healthy, I have to make my office a place where the most impressionable patients feel welcome and comfortable.  Healthy teeth start and continue with trust, caring and a positive approach, especially for younger kids.  Using pediatric dentistry designed for them, I help them stay healthy through a time when cavities, tooth decay and other periodontal developmental problems are prevalent.  I also help them avoid a detrimental fear of the dentist that can cause many adults to neglect critical checkups and procedures throughout their lives.

I wanted to explain a little bit more about the portion of my practice that’s especially catered to kids.  This includes the Cavity Free Guarantee Program.  The program is designed to make kids active players, if not the leaders in their own periodontal care.  Parents are usually the biggest fans of that approach!  In ways that they can understand and get excited about, kids can get involved in their own checkups and procedures.  While this has had a very positive impact on my youngest patients—one that’s exceeded my expectations, the real Cavity Free Guarantee Program takes place at home.  Kids are provided with a full arsenal in the fight against cavities.  From toothbrushes to fluoride gel, everything is custom catered to their needs so they can take a real hands-on approach.  With the help of their parents and me, more and more of my young patients have met with cavity-free success. It helps them avoid unnecessary procedures now and sets them on the road to a lifetime of good periodontal care, which is best approach to dentistry, no matter how much corrective procedures and technology advances.

To get your kids enrolled in the Cavity Free Guarantee Program, or if I can help you help your kids take a better approach to their periodontal health, contact me through Washington Street Dental’s website: http://www.washingtonstreetdentistry.com.
